Positive Youth Initiatives (PYI) is a program offered within the Adolescent & Family Division for children and youth, ages 12-17, that focuses on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. The PYI program originally began as an alternative to traditional court-ordered sanctions. Positive Youth Initiatives provide opportunities for youth to develop higher levels of achievement, self-confidence, and encourage interest in physical activity while giving back to the community.

Waukeshsa County Dept of HHS Social Workers have seen positive outcomes by the youth who participate in the Positive Youth Initiatives program, such as improved teamwork principles, positive social skills, healthy nutrition choices, improvement in mental and physical health and school attendance.

Initiatives in the PYI program include: Community Service, Healthy Boundaries, Meditation / Youth Accountability Panel, Recognizing Outstanding Kids (ROKS), Teen Court, Teen Cuisine, Teen Life Skills, Waukesha County Community Youth Garden, Zumba, running, and walking/hiking.
