Waukesha County

Wood

Most hauling/recycling companies will take wood – either separated from or commingled with other materials for recycling. Clean, untreated wood can be recycled or chipped for ground cover. Call your local municipality or curbside hauler first. If they do not take wood, either arrange with a private hauler or use one of the privately-owned landfills listed below.

Pallet USA in Lannon WI also accepts some wood products in addition to pallets.

Railroad ties are pretreated and cannot be recycled as wood chips. Call your local municipality or curbside hauler first:

  • Advanced Disposal Services will accept railroad ties curbside from their customers for a fee.  Railroad ties must be cut into 4’ or less lengths and placed curbside during any trash pickup day.  The fee is $50 for 6 (six) 4’ pieces.  You must call Advanced Disposal (262-367-6040) in advance to arrange for payment.
  • Johns Disposal accepts up to 2 railroad ties curbside from their customers on big item pickup days.  There may or may not be a fee depending on municipality.  Ties do not need to be cut up.  Call Johns Disposal (262-473-4700) in advance for fee info.
  • Waste Management does not accept railroad ties at curbside pickup.

You can also arrange with a private hauler or use one of the privately-owned landfills listed below for a fee:

  • Advanced Disposal, Emerald Park Landfill (Muskego) 414-529-1360
  • Waste Management, Orchard Ridge Landfill (Men.Falls) 262-253-8620
