Waukesha County Public Health Division works hard to keep everyone safe from different emergencies. We have plans to handle things like bad weather, accidents, and disease outbreaks. We also team up with other groups to make sure we’re ready. It's important for everyone to be prepared, so we encourage families to make their own emergency plans and kits.
Citizen Preparedness
- Citizens should be aware and prepared for public health threats and emergencies.
- Recommended to create a disaster plan and Go Kit for various emergencies (pandemic flu, bioterrorism, chemical release, natural disasters).
Current Preparedness Measures
- Prepared to respond to infectious disease outbreaks (naturally occurring or man-made).
- Examples include pandemic influenza, SARS, hepatitis A, bacterial meningitis, anthrax, smallpox, and plague.
- Ready to set up mass clinics or Points of Dispensing (PODs) for vaccines or medications.
Communication During Emergencies
- Information will be shared through television, radio, newspapers, hotlines, IMPACT 2-1-1, Facebook, and the website.
- Details on disease symptoms, risks, preventative measures, and where to seek medical attention.
Flu Readiness
- Pandemic Flu Preparedness plans in place.
- Examples of pandemics: H1N1 (swine flu), H5N1 (bird flu), SARS, smallpox, and the plague.
- Activation of Medical Countermeasure Dispensing Plan during a pandemic.
- PODs will administer flu vaccines.
- Measures to minimize disease spread, including isolation and quarantine when necessary.
