Waukesha County is Looking for Volunteers to Help Improve Wetland Habitats
Waukesha County Park System’s Conservation in the Parks Citizen Science Programs are looking for new volunteers to conduct wetland monitoring this spring. Retzer Nature Center is offering two free orientation workshops in February for people interested in helping the county’s management of crucial wildlife habitats.
“These volunteers have an immense impact on our wetland conservation efforts,” said Julia Robson, Waukesha County Conservation Biologist. “Last year, they surveyed 43 different wetlands and documented over 20 species. The data they collect guides the management and improvement of these important natural areas.”
Volunteers do not need any prior experience to participate, the training will teach people how to identify and document the presence and distribution of sensitive wildlife populations such as salamanders, frogs, toads, crayfish and fairy shrimp. All equipment will be provided. The wetland monitoring orientation sessions will be held at Retzer Nature Center, S14W28167 Madison Street, Waukesha.
