Waukesha County and the Village of Sussex invites residents, visitors and all their four-legged friends to celebrate the official opening of the new off-leash Dog Exercise Area in Menomonee Park, on Thursday, July 22, 2021. The ‘Grand Unleashing’ event will take place at the Dog Exercise Area at 3:00 p.m. Menomonee Park is located at W220 N7884 Town Line Road in Menomonee Falls.
“We’re excited to bring this amenity to our community in Menomonee Park," said Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow. "It's a great place to enjoy the outdoors with your dog companions and to connect with nature.”
The 32-acre Dog Exercise Area has three separate spaces for off-leash dog activities with some open turf areas and several mowed trails through natural meadows and woodlands. There are separate areas for large breed and small breed dogs, and a covered picnic shelter with modern restrooms and water access. The areas are surrounded by a unique buck and rail fencing system with woven wire that rests on grade. This ranch-style system eliminated the need for costly drilling into the shallow bedrock for fence posts. The project also includes parking, walkways, entrance gates and signage.
“We are thrilled to see the project come to life and become a community gathering place for dogs and their owners,” said Halie Dobbeck, Village of Sussex Parks & Recreation Director. “We know that residents will enjoy being active, socializing and exploring off-leash with their furry friends here.”
The project was funded through a partnership between Waukesha County and the Village of Sussex. The Menomonee Park Dog Exercise Area is the fourth off-leash dog exercise area within the Waukesha County Park System. The dog exercise area will be open to all park users who wish to bring their dogs. Access to the site will be included in the park entrance fee. Attendees and their leashed dogs are also invited to enjoy the Raised Grain Pop-up Beer Garden at the beach area in the park after the event from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. to celebrate the “Dog Days of Summer” with a free treat for any dog that attends the beer garden.
