Visit Retzer Nature Center for our popular self-guided hike around Scarecrow Lane!
Enjoy the unique scarecrows displays and changing colors of autumn along the Blue Trail. Find the scarecrows on the west end of the Learning Center building, near the Children's Garden, and loop to the Retzer pond. Expect woodchipped and mowed grass trails with some sloped terrain.

Tips:

• The trail is not paved and is not lit after dark.
• Retzer Nature Center grounds are open daily sunrise - 10 pm. 
• A special event admission fee applies on Sat, September 21 for our annual Apple Harvest Festival.

Build-A-Scarecrow At Home

Install your Scarecrow creation between September 14-20, 2024

Schools, churches, families, businesses, scouts, 4-H, daycares, and individuals are encouraged to build a family-friendly scarecrow at home to display at Retzer Nature Center from September 21 - October 31, 2024.

Guidelines:

  • Read the Build-A-Scarecrow Instructions online before creating your scarecrow at home.
  • Register your scarecrow online by Sept 20, 2024 at 4 pm. (You will need to create an account in our system.)
  • Complete the Scarecrow Identification Card. Insert it into a zippered or sealed bag and pin it to your scarecrow.
  • Install your scarecrow on the stakes provided along the blue loop trail from Sept. 14-20, 2024.
  • Remove your scarecrow Nov. 1-10, 2024.
  • Any scarecrows not removed by Nov. 11, 2024 will be discarded.
  • Please, no violent or gruesome scarecrows. Retzer Nature Center reserves the right to remove any inappropriate entries.
