Neighborhood Initiative Visioning Session
January 22, 2019
Background
In Q1 2018, Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow pulled together a group of builders, developers, and interested business leaders to discuss the workforce shortage in our county and the perception that there is a shortage of housing stock available for purchase by young professionals.
During the summer, the County held a Neighborhood Initiative symposium at Quad Graphics in Sussex. The meeting was attended by local elected leaders and municipal planners, residential developers, home builders, and several large employers. We learned of the difficulties new and prospective employees have finding adequate housing in Waukesha County. We believe there is a market of young professionals and young families seeking neighborhoods that they can afford and also meet their lifestyle needs.

Our initiative hopes to identify ways to reduce the sale price of a home by cutting costs associated with government regulation, construction and development, and home design and sale. We are engaged in a process to examine each aspect of the development, construction, and sale of a home on individual teams, discuss how costs can be reduced in those areas, and then work as a multi-disciplinary team to cut the sale price.
