Each year, Waukesha County Parks undertakes a variety of improvement and development projects across the park system. These annual initiatives are designed to enhance the quality, accessibility, and overall experience of our public spaces.

Weather Closures- April 17, 2026-

  • Segment 2 between Barker Rd and Springdale Rd 
  • Portions of this trail segment are covered in water and may be impassible due to running water over the trail. 
  • Please use caution and avoid where impassible. 

WEATHER CLOSURES- April 16, 2026:

  • The Kayak launch is currently closed due to flooding.
  • Portions of the paved trail at Fox River are also closed due to high water levels near the river. 

Seasonal Closure:

  • The drinking fountain at the Nature Play Area has been turned off for the season.

Kayak Launch:

  • Accessible Kayak/Canoe Launch has been installed for the 2026 season and is available for use.

Moor Downs Golf Course Access:

  • Prospect Avenue Access to the golf course will be closed beginning March 9, 2026.
  • Temporary access will be available off Lemira Avenue.
  • Work is scheduled to be completed by May 20, 2026.

Moor Downs GC Seasonal Update:

  • Moor Downs 2026 Jr Golf memberships are available and make a great gift. Details here.
  • Moor Downs Golf Course is open for the season as of March 30.

Naga-Waukee War Memorial GC Seasonal Update:

  • Course is open for the season as of March 24.

Road Closure - April 15, 2026:

  • The Menomonee Park road is closed in two locations due to flooding. 
  • Please use caution and avoid these areas. 

Seasonal Closure:

  • Outside season water sources will be shut down on Friday, November 7, 2025. 
    • This includes the all breed dog exercise area water fountain, foot wash at the beach house and the water source at the campground.
  • Service will resume in the spring of 2026.

Picnic Area 3: 

  • Restrooms are open.
  • Parking lot, and Picnic Area are open.
  • The Multi Purpose Field will remain closed until further notice.

Mountain Bike Trails:

  • Status: Trails are currently Closed. 

State Scientific Woods:

  • The culvert was washed out on the Blue Trail in the State Scientific Woods due to heavy rains.
  • The Yellow and Orange trail on the east loop is closed due to trail and culvert wash out.
  • These areas will be closed until further notice.
  • Please refer to this map of the closure area.

Seasonal Closure:

  • Picnic Areas 3,4, and 5 have been winterized and closed for the season. 
  • Flush toilets area are available at Picnic Area 1 and 2.

Weather Alerts - April 15, 2026:

  • Due to heavy rain portions of the trails are under water. 
  • Please be aware that conditions may vary from section to section of the trail. 
  • Use caution as you hike along the trails, wear appropriate footwear, and if conditions appear unsafe please turn around. 

Weather Closure - April 17, 2026:

  • Due to flooding and accessibility issues, the boat launch is temporarily closed until water levels go down. 

Trail Section Closure (between S. Moreland & S. Calhoun):

  • Trail repair has been completed. 
  • Asphalt will be done spring of 2026.
  • Current conditions: compacted millings (safe for trail use).

Trail Section Closure (between E. Lincoln and S. Springdale- continued):

  • Construction is expected to start in May of 2025 and continue through late 2026. Please visit the Wisconsin DOT website for more details.
  • A repaving project involving HWY 59 will close a section of the New Berlin Trail, approximately 960 feet west of WIS-59 through Springdale Road.

Thursday, April 2, 2026:

  • Due to a scheduled internet outage sales for park memberships, daily permits, notices, and gift shop items will not be possible. 
  • Building hours will remain the same. 
  • Phones will also be down during this time, please email with any questions: retzer@waukeshacounty.gov 

Friday, April 3, 2026:

  • Building will be closed to the general public. 
  • Sales and regular hours will resume Saturday, April 4, 2026. 
  • Staff will let in those enrolled in our Animal Adaptations program and any pre-booked private programs. 
  • Alternative bathrooms are located in the Maintenance Building. 

Construction & Trail Closures:

  • Construction for Retzer Gardens Phase 1 began in October 2025.
  • The project site is located directly northwest of the Retzer Nature Center building.
  • This area, along with nearby section of the Blue Trail and Connector Trail, will be closed until further notice. 
  • Please refer to this trail closure map.

Cross Country Ski Trails
Trails marked as Cross Country (X-C) Ski Trails are designated for X-C Skiing only through March 30. They are not open to hikers, walkers, or other activities, regardless of snow conditions.

Snowshoe Rentals at Retzer Nature Center

Not Available: Snowshoe rentals are available as conditions allow. Snowshoe rentals are not available to rent at Retzer Nature Center as of 2/11/2026

Note: Snowshoes and other traction devices are not permitted on boardwalks or on paved/concrete surfaces.

Snowmobile Trails

Snowmobile trail conditions info: Phone the Waukesha County Snowmobile Association hotline at 414-299-0330.

Information about snowmobile clubs in the Waukesha area: www.WaukeshaSnow.org.

Trail Maintenance:

  • ATC will be conducting annual maintenance for vegetation management along with construction activities to replace overhead conductors. 
  • Trail users in the area should be aware of these activities scheduled through April 2026.

Park Access- April 16, 2026:

  • Fox Brook Park is currently accessible from the south via Barker Road. 
  • Best route for access: Springdale Rd (HWY SR) to North Ave > East to Barker Rd. >North on Barker to Fox Brook.
