Each year, Waukesha County Parks undertakes a variety of improvement and development projects across the park system. These annual initiatives are designed to enhance the quality, accessibility, and overall experience of our public spaces.

Bridle trails open May 1 - November 1 (as conditions allow). Trails may close due to surface conditions. 
Note: Bridle Trails are "shared use paths." Your consideration of fellow users is appreciated.

Large Breed Dog Exercise Area Partial Closure:

  • The boardwalk at the large breed Dog Exercise Area will be closed for construction beginning September 21, 2026.

Fox Brook Park Peninsula Closure:

  • The peninsula will be closed for restoration beginning September 14, 2026. It is expected to remain closed for the remainder of the year and will re-open in Spring.
  • The fishing pier will stay open during this time.

 

Moor Downs GC Seasonal Update:

  • Moor Downs 2026 Jr Golf memberships are available and make a great gift. Details here.
  • Moor Downs Golf Course is open for the season as of March 30.

Naga-Waukee War Memorial GC Seasonal Update:

  • Course is open for the season as of March 24, 2026.

Forestry Mowing:

  • Forestry mowing will be occurring in numerous areas throughout the park between 09/30/26 and 10/14/26.
  • Please do not cross any area that has been marked with orange cones do not come within 300 feet of the machine.

Beach Slide Closure:

  • Dual slide at beach playground is CLOSED due to damage. 

Removal of Archery Tower: 

  • Removal of the archery tower at Menomonee Park will begin on July 21, 2026.
  • The tower has reached the end of its useful life and will not be replaced.
  • Visitors may continue to use the archery range; however, elevated archery shooting opportunities will no longer be available at Menomonee Park.
  • Elevated archery shooting opportunities remain available at Mukwonago and Minooka Parks.

Mountain Bike Trails:

  • Status: Trails are currently Closed.

Invasive Removal- September 28, 2026 - October 2, 2026:

  • Contractors will be on site conducting buckthorn removal as part of an ongoing restoration project. 

State Scientific Woods:

  • Due to ongoing erosion, water management challenges, and sensitive natural resources, the Orange/Yellow trail is permanently closed following an extensive evaluation.

  • Beginning in 2027, Waukesha County Parks will focus on rehabilitating and improving the park’s woodland trail network as part of a planned three-year trail improvement initiative.

Trail Section Closure (between E. Lincoln and S. Springdale):

  • Road construction started in May of 2025 and is expected to continue through late 2026 for Les Paul Parkway/59. Please visit the Wisconsin DOT website for more details. This repaving project involving HWY 59 will close a section of the New Berlin Trail, approximately 960 feet west of WIS-59 through Springdale Road.

Cross Country Ski Trails
Trails marked as Cross Country (X-C) Ski Trails are designated for X-C Skiing only through March 30. They are not open to hikers, walkers, or other activities, regardless of snow conditions.

Snowshoe Rentals at Retzer Nature Center

Not Available: Snowshoe rentals are available as conditions allow. Snowshoe rentals are not available.

Note: Snowshoes and other traction devices are not permitted on boardwalks or on paved/concrete surfaces.
