Reduced Speed Limit and Temporary Traffic Signals to be Installed During I-43 Construction
Intersection of CTH ES (National Ave) and Edgewood Ave
(WAUKESHA, WI) – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and Waukesha County are informing drivers of a temporary traffic pattern change at the intersection of County ES and Edgewood Avenue.
Beginning the week of July 13, temporary trailer-mounted traffic signals will be installed at the intersection. The temporary signals will remain in place through fall 2026. During this time, the posted speed limit on County ES will be reduced to 35 mph between the Fox River and Hidden Lakes Drive.
Improving Traffic Flow During Construction
Since the start of the I-43 Rock Freeway project, County ES has experienced an increase in traffic volumes due to successful traffic diversion off I-43 onto the alternate route.
WisDOT and Waukesha County have maintained ongoing communication with local municipalities, businesses, and community stakeholders throughout the construction process.
The temporary signals are being installed to improve traffic flow and enhance mobility through the intersection for the remainder of construction activities this year. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow additional travel time when driving through the area.
Long Term Improvements at Intersection
Waukesha County, the Village of Mukwonago, and the Village of Vernon are working on plans to complete the installation of a permanent traffic signal and permanent speed reduction at this intersection in fall 2026.
