  • Meditate, Move, and More! (Retzer) May 03, 2025
    A Half Day of Awareness: Meditation, Mindful Movement, Forest Bathing, and Service Promotion 
     
    Join the Mindfulness Community of Milwaukee at Retzer Nature Center for A Half Day of Awareness. This rejuvenating half-day experience is recommended for ages 12+ and is designed to connect you with nature and yourself though mindful walking and movement, meditations, forest bathing, and service. This four-hour event invites you to slow down and embrace the simplicity of moving through the natural world with intention and awareness.

    * Gentle walk through nature
    * Mindful movement practice - grounding ourselves in the present moment
    * Mediation practice on the environment
    * Peaceful forest bathing session - we'll immerse ourselves in the sights, sounds, and smells of nature will cultivate a deep sense of presence
    * Engage in a service project - contributing to the well-being of the land through light environmental stewardship.

    This is an opportunity to give and receive from nature, to restore balance, and to deepen your mindfulness practice in a supportive community. Whether you're new to mindfulness or a seasoned practitioner, this event offers a unique way to connect with both yourself and the world around you. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water as well as any items you need for begin outdoors.

    Ice skating is perfect for family fun, friend or group outings, staying active, or simply enjoying time on the ice. Our Public Skate Sessions are open to all ages and skating abilities.

    COST: $7.00 for Admission (Adult/Children); $6.00 for Admission (Seniors 60+ & Active Military); $3.00 for Skate Rentals.

    Enjoy a relaxed public skating experience just for adults and seniors.

    These designated sessions are open to skaters ages 18 and older, regardless of skill level. Whether you're a seasoned skater or just getting started, all are welcome! Standard public skating rules apply.

  • Outdoor Classroom (Retzer) May 07, 2025
    Outdoor Classroom for Kids
     
    Learn and explore the outdoors with a naturalist in programs that focus on seasonal topics and incorporate hands-on discovery and sensory exploration for your elementary-age learner. Programs take place on select Wednesdays. Cost is $5 per child per class, ages 4-12. Upcoming programs are listed below:

    Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Adults are free. Programs are mostly outdoors; please dress for the weather. If inclement weather, activities may relocate indoors. Please register online; sorry, no walk-ins.
  • Meditation and Hike (Retzer) May 07, 2025
    Sunset Meditation and Night Hike 
     
    In the Planetarium:
     
    • View an amazing sunset as you travel from the Grand Canyon to the North Pole.
    • Relax under a night sky filled with stars with glimpses of the Northern Lights under the dome.
     
    Then:
     
    • Take a quiet hike outside with a Retzer naturalist and discover the tranquil sights and sounds of Retzer Nature Center (weather permitting). In the case of severe weather, the Planetarium will hold an extended program.
     
    7:30 p.m.
    Sunset Meditation Planetarium Show (30 mins)
     
    8 p.m.
    Peaceful Night Hike (45 mins)

    Important: Please help keep meditation sessions quiet and peaceful for maximum benefit to all:
     
    - Doors open at 7:15 p.m.
    - Arrive early to take your seat(s) and settle into a calm state of mind before the show.
    - Late arrivals will not be admitted into the dome. Thank you!

  • Bat Survey (County Parks) May 08, 2025

    CITIZEN SCIENCE: ACOUSTIC BAT SURVEY

    Team up with Master Naturalist Carrie Frantz to survey bats using high-tech detectors! These devices capture the ultrasonic calls that bats use to communicate.

    COST: Free! This is a volunteer event; park entry is included with registration (ages 16+)


    REGISTRATION: Required; register online by noon the day before. Sorry, no walk-ins.


    NOTE: Dress for the weather, as survey takes place outdoors. In poor weather, survey may be cancelled or rescheduled.

    Survey may occasionally wander off trail into natural areas and tall grass. Close-toed shoes, long pants, water, and bug spray are recommended.

  • Bird Hike (Retzer) May 09, 2025
    Scout areas of Retzer with us to see how many different types of birds we can find on an easy, 1.5 mile walk.
     
    -FREE!
    -No expertise is needed and all skill levels are welcome.
    -Children must be accompanied by an adult (recommended for ages 8+)
    -Bring your own binoculars or borrow ours (limited quantity); cameras are also welcome.
    -Dress for the weather and meet in the parking lot area by the Learning Center building. Held rain or shine.
    -If groups of 10 or more plan to attend, please contact Retzer Nature Center in advance. Otherwise, registration is not required.

    Girls Try Hockey for Free 

    Event By: Waukesha County Youth Hockey Association (WCYHA)

    This special event is designed to introduce girls ages 4 to 9 to the exciting world of hockey in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. No experience is necessary! Trained coaching staff from WCYHA will be on hand to ensure a great first experience, offering plenty of assistance both on and off the ice.
