Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs)
Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will be located at designated locations within Waukesha County. The DRCs are not restricted to residents of these municipalities; all residents impacted by the August Flooding requiring assistance are welcome to attend.
To maximize your visit, we recommend bringing important information with you, including:
-
Your contact information, including email address.
-
Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying (if different)
-
Your social security number and household income
-
A list of your damage and losses
-
Banking information (account and routing numbers)
-
Insurance information
This information is needed to begin the application process for visiting the DRC. FEMA will contact you within 15 days of your submission with updates on your eligibility status. They may request supporting documents such as insurance denial letters, photos, receipts, and similar items.
DSA teams support disaster survivors by helping them apply for federal assistance, identifying immediate needs, providing application updates and providing referrals to additional community resources.
These teams arrive in communities within days, sometimes hours, of a disaster. Wearing FEMA vests and their official FEMA identification badges, teams walk through affected areas or convene in small groups at neighborhood facilities or local events. Often referred to as FEMA's "boots on the ground", Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams' mission includes assessing and reporting critical and emerging needs to FEMA leadership for decision-making purposes.
Their Duties Include:
-
Help survivors apply for disaster assistance, provide guidance through the application process, and offer an overview of FEMA assistance.
-
Reviewing survivors' applications, providing basic information about application status, and collecting new information or documents for case files.
-
Engaging disaster survivors and local officials in identifying immediate unmet needs that FEMA or partner agencies can help resolve.
-
Supporting community outreach and partnerships with local, state, tribal, or territorial emergency managers, disability partners, the private sector, voluntary agencies, and faith-based organizations to foster a culture of partnership to support survivors.
