WAUKESHA COUNTY JAIL WEBSITE INFORMATION

One of the primary duties of the Office of the Sheriff is the management of the jail. There are two Waukesha County Sheriff's Department correctional facilities:  the County Jail and the Huber Facility. The Waukesha County Jail is a 469-bed facility which is a combination of direct supervision and remote supervision housing pods. The County Jail is a maximum-security facility which houses male and female, pre-trial and sentenced offenders. The Sheriff's Department also operates the Huber Law or work release facility. Inmates confined at the Huber Facility are allowed out of the facility for the purpose of work, education, child or elder care and treatment purposes.

County Jail - Public Visitation (Guidelines and Schedule)
Participation in the video visitation program will be allowed for any member of the general public during normal visiting hours (7:00 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday exclusive of meal times), with the following exceptions:

Effective January 1, 2008 there will no longer be inmate visitation for the general public available on Mondays. Public visitation for inmates will continue to be available Tuesday through Sunday from:
7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  -
 The last visit will be registered at 10:30 a.m. 
12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m -
 The last visit will be registered at 3:30 p.m.
5:30 to 9:15 p.m. - The last visit will be registered at 8:45 p.m.

Effective June 29, 2008 public and professional visitation for Waukesha County Jail inmates will commence at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings.

  1. Visitors are permitted to visit one (1) inmate per day.
  2. No consecutive visits will be allowed for any inmate.
  3. An additional 15 minutes visitation will be approved for visitors traveling from out of state on a case-by-case basis as availability of visitation booths allows. Out of state residence will be verified by review of a driver's license.
  4. Two (2) visitors are allowed for each inmate during each visitation session.
  5. No unattended children (under 12 years of age) will be allowed in the public lobby.
  6. Juveniles (less than 18 years of age) are allowed to visit pursuant to the following requirements/restrictions:
    A. Juveniles must be accompanied by a visiting adult.
    B. Juveniles are included in the two (2)-person limit for visitation.
    C. Photograph identification is not required, however, the juvenile must be entered into the detention management visitation program as a visitor.
    D. If a juvenile is disruptive, the adult and juvenile will be asked to leave the visitation area and/or public lobby.
  7. Appropriate attire is to be worn.
  8. No visitation is permitted at meal times:  11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Professional Visitation
Video visitation and non-contact visitation.  Professional video and non-contact visitation will take place on a first come-first served basis and is available from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. seven days per week except during meal times from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The last visit that will be registered prior to facility lockdown periods will occur at the following times:

Professional non-contact visitation: 
10:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., and 8:45 p.m.

Professional video visitation: 
10:45 a.m. (after 10:30 a.m., inmate will not be moved from assigned housing unit)
  3:45 p.m. (after 3:30 p.m., inmate will not be moved from assigned housing unit)
  8:45 p.m. (after 8:30 p.m., inmate will not be moved from assigned housing unit)

Effective June 29, 2008 public and professional visitation for Waukesha County Jail inmates will commence at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings.

Use of professional video visitation for individual religious counseling or visits is restricted to evening hours Monday through Friday and on weekends.

Contact visitation.  Contact visitation must be requested the previous business day by calling (262) 548-7171 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Contact visitation will be approved for trial preparation as needed, incidents where extensive review of discovery material is required, and other pre-approved exigent circumstances.  Contact visitation is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday only.

Inmates with morning court appearances will be transported to the Main Jail (Court Holding) at 7:30 a.m. and inmates with afternoon court appearances will be transported to the Main Jail (Court Holding) at 12:30 p.m. Please be advised there will no longer be any professional visitation opportunities in the Main Jail. Once inmates have been transported for court, access to these inmates will be denied.

Inmate Account Deposits:
Cashier's check or money orders are to be sent to the above noted address.  The inmate's name is to be included on the document and mailing envelope. Do not send cash through the U. S. mail.

Bail Posting:
During normal business hours, bail set in a Waukesha County Criminal/Traffic Court may be posted in the Waukesha County Courthouse, Criminal/Traffic Division, Room 226.  All other bail postings will be handled through the Sheriff's Department.  The Department accepts cash, money orders, cashier's checks, Visa and MasterCard.

Location and Directions to the Waukesha County Jail:
The Waukesha County Jail is located behind the Waukesha County Courthouse in the Law Enforcement Center at 515 West Moreland Boulevard in Waukesha Wisconsin.

Take I-94 and exit at highway "J" (also called 164). Turn south on highway J for approximately 2 miles until you reach W Moreland Blvd and turn right. The Waukesha County Courthouse will be on your immediate left hand side. Parking for the Courthouse and Jail is primarily in front of the Courthouse. Please be conscious of the various "90 minute" parking restrictions throughout the area.
