TIP OF THE MONTH & RECYCLING EVENTS

December: Holiday Waste Reduction

Fact: It's estimated that between Thanksgiving and the New Year an extra 5 million tons of waste are generated nationwide.  The amount of ribbon alone thrown out each year adds up to 38,000 miles - enough to tie a bow around the earth!
Tip: Consider replacing older strings of holiday lights with more energy efficient light emitting diodes, LEDs. Ask your lighting supplier for LED holiday bulbs, or look for them on the Internet. Now available in green, orange, gold, red, white and blue, they're shatterproof, shock resistant and safe to touch. They present no fire hazard and save up to 80-90 percent of your
decorative lighting energy costs.
Click here for more info.
Tip: Use decorative reusable boxes and bags for gift giving instead of wrapping paper, or wrap gifts in the comics, old calendars or fabric.
Tip:Give gifts that create little waste such as gift certificates for a movie, a play, sports event or parks passes, concert tickets, memberships in groups, societies, etc. of the person's interst, a compost bin, plants, or gifts of time (childcare, cleaning, yard work, etc.).

Recycling bins hold lots of things like paper, cans, and bottles -NOT CHRISTMAS  LIGHTS OR ELECTRICAL CORDS!
Santa and the Recycling Sorters say: Please DO NOT put lights or cords in your recycling bin - Happy Holidays!(These are not recyclable.)
