MENU OF SERVICES FOR MUNICIPALITIES THAT PARTICIPATE IN THE COUNTY RECYCLING PROGRAM

The Waukesha County Recycling Office has many services and materials to offer the 25 municipalities that have designated the county as their Responsible Unit.  All of the services and materials that we offer are free and we encourage all municipalities to take advantage of this wide array of benefits. To further promote recycling efforts in Waukesha County, we are issuing the RECYCLE MORE Challenge - and awarding the winning community.

SPECIAL SERVICES

  • Festival Recycling Bins on loan
We have 50 Clearstream recycling containers for use at festivals, parades and other community events.  Please call well in advance of your event to reserve containers.
  • Festival Recycling Bin grant purchase program for municipalities
Purchase Clearstream festival recycling containers for your community and never have to worry about availability again. Our grant program will help offset the cost of the containers.
  • Waste Assessments for municipal buildings, businesses and schools
A Waste Assessment can help identify areas where money can be saved by reducing waste or recycling more materials.
  • Blue Bin Distribution for residents in cooperation with hauler and municipalities
Communities where every household has one or two blue bins have higher recycling rates.  By working together with the county and your hauler, communities can get blue bins to residents who need them.
  • Assistance with articles for community newsletters and websites
Draw on our large database of press releases and other written articles for your newsletters and websites.
  • Recycle Raccoon for parades and special events
Recycle Raccoon is our lovable mascot and he is always eager to strut his stuff at local events.  He will bring along goodies to give to kids.
  • Compost Workshops
Help residents learn how to manage their yard waste in their own backyards.  This is particularly helpful in towns where residents have large properties and are more than able to handle their yard waste on site.

EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS

  • MRF visits/tours
Find out what happens to your recyclables after they leave the curb by visiting the Materials Recycling Facility in Waukesha.  In our education room kids have a chance to view the MRF through observation windows, talk to our Wise Tree of Recycling and go on a scavenger hunt in Recycle Raccoon's apartment.  Adult groups can tour the plant.  We also have meeting space in our Education Room for up to 30 people.
  • Recycling/Waste Reduction Presentations
Can't make it to the MRF?  We'll bring our dynamic presentation to children and adult groups.  One of our staff members will hit the road and bring along lots of visuals to complete the recycling and waste reduction picture.
  • Traveling Trunks
Traveling Trunks are filled with fun, informative, and engaging activities. Trunks are available for children in grades pre-K, K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Any librarian, teacher, scout leader, 4-H leader or home-schooler in Waukesha County can borrow a trunk FREE for a two-week loan period.  Trunks include an "Ollie's World" CD-ROM, an imagination station creative reuse box, books, videos, a teacher's guide packed with activity ideas and much more!
  • "It's All Connected" presentations or home parties
This presentation about Household Hazardous Waste will help audiences look at everyday products in a new light.  Highlights of the presentation include a safety equipment fashion show, an in-depth look at the "mystery ingredients" in some of the products we use every day and a look at the hazardous materials in common goods like televisions and computers.  This presentation will help to prevent toxins and money from going down the drain.  Presentations can be targeted to adult or school age audiences.
  • Energy and Recycling "Watt's the Connection"
Energy is a BIG deal these days, it seems the E word is on the news every night and in the newspaper every morning.  So what does energy have to do with recycling?  Lots!  You'll be amazed at how much energy we are saving by recycling and how much more we could potentially save if everyone recycled.  "Watt's the Connection" is held at the Materials Recycling Facility in Waukesha and is available for adult or school age audiences.
  • Green Garden Parties (seasonal)
Parties can be tailored to your needs and focus on composting, grasscycling, yard waste, leaf mulching or water-wise and organic gardening.  Residents can host a Garden Party at their house or municipalities can choose to host a Garden Party at a park for members of the community.  It's free, and there is absolutely no selling involved. Plus, there are great gifts for hosts and your guests will have the chance to win door prizes!  Adults.
