As a lifelong journalist, now retired, Darryl worked as a reporter and editor for many newspapers that include the Milwaukee Journal, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Waukesha Freeman, the Janesville Gazette, the Now group and the Abilene (TX) Reporter-News.

Darryl’s pivotal news efforts included award-winning coverage of the Jeffrey Dahmer homicides, directing the reporting of the failures of the Milwaukee Deep Tunnel, Waukesha FYI blog, award-winning columns for the Freeman and decade-long coverage of Waukesha’s pursuit of Lake Michigan water to replace its radium-contaminated well water.

Darryl entered the newspaper industry as a dock foreman for the Milwaukee Sentinel. Soon, printer’s ink became his blood. Back then, the foreman’s wages were enough to pay for tuition and books at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, where Darryl earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

Darryl’s secondary study was film making. He was a student of visiting directors from Europe and the United Kingdom. To this day, Darryl studies the production and composition of films, finding those details more interesting than story lines.    

​As avid outdoorsman, Darryl enjoys fishing, hunting, dog training, gardening, boating, hiking, and harvesting wild edible plants. On occasion he tries his hand in golf, music, and auto mechanics.

Darryl is married 40 years and has a son and daughter and recently became a grandparent.  He has owned homes in or near District 19 since 1987.
