Environmental Learning Center
The Environmental Learning Center opened in May of 2006, to include the School District of Waukesha's Charles Horwitz Planetarium. The center provides visitors the opportunity to explore interactive exhibits and learn about Waukesha County's dedication to land restoration and sustainable energy.
The Environmental Learning Center is open 7 days a week from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
Retzer Exhibit Hall
"Unseen World"
Come and discover "The Unseen World"! Our interactive displays will enlighten and entertain the whole family with a variety of hands-on exhibits. Learn about Wisconsin's topography from glacial deposits to soil composition. Step into the prairie underground and view hidden life down below. Observe a range of native Wisconsin fish in our 800 gallon fresh water aquarium. Peek at our education animals to see "unseen" wildlife in a close up encounter. Spent time investigating natural objects found on the Touch and Discover table, as you round out your indoor experience at the Retzer Nature Center.
Gift Shop
Support the Nature Center by taking a memory of your visit home with you. You'll find the perfect gift for everyone on your gift giving list. The Gift shop has Children's activities, toys and books for the kids to enjoy and use as they explore. Need help with plant identification or landscape restoration? Do you require information on birds in the area or are you in need of assistance with wildlife found in Wisconsin? We carry a wide selection of reference books to help answer all your questions. Rain barrels and Compost bins are also available for purchase.
Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium
The Charles Horwitz Planetarium is an out of this world journey for the entire family to enjoy. Dave DeRemer, the Planetarium Director, invites you to sat back and let the "Star Machine" take you on an astonishing voyage around our solar system. Public shows are held on most Saturdays from mid September through May. Visit the Planetarium for more information.
