A Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) is where recyclable materials are sorted and then sold to manufacturers. In 2014, Waukesha County and the City of Milwaukee formed a partnership to open a new single-sort Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) where recyclable materials from both communities will be sorted and then sold to manufacturers. Processing the combined recycling tonnage from both communities reduces the MRF capital expenses and operating costs per ton. The partnership should generate over 50,000 tons of recyclables each year, approximately equally split between the two communities.
All reports show costs, revenues, and tons processed at the Waukesha County Materials Recovery Facility. No community recycling program costs are included.
Pounds of household hazardous waste collected in the County, and net operations cost per household after Emerald Park landfill payments.
