INVASIVE WEEDS – What can you do?

Many people need to eliminate invasive weeds such as purple loosestrife and garlic mustard from their yards. Residents should put all invasive weeds in CLEAR plastic bags, label them "Invasive plants – approved by WI DNR for landfilling", and set them out with the garbage. It is illegal to put any other yard waste e.g. leaves, branches, grass cuttings, etc. in landfills.
Invasive weeds should NOT be composted. Home compost piles do not reach high enough temperatures for a long enough time to destroy the seeds of these nasty plants!

  • Garlic Mustard
  • Purple Loosestrife

For more information on handling invasive weeds, see the DNR website on Invasive Plants.
