The public is invited to tour the City of Milwaukee/Waukesha County Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) as a part of Doors Open Milwaukee. The annual event invites the public to explore Milwaukee’s art, architecture, culture and history, and is a great opportunity for the community to tour their MRF, located at 1401 W. Mt. Vernon Ave., Milwaukee. The free, ticket-required guided tours will take place on Saturday, September 23 at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Limited tickets are available online starting Tuesday, September 6 at www.doorsopenmilwaukee.orgon a first come, first served basis.

Those who tour the MRF will have an opportunity to see how their recyclable materials get a second life, as they arrive from curbside containers and get sorted by workers and state-of-the-art machinery. Staff from Waukesha County, the City of Milwaukee and Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful will provide the tours and answer questions. The equipment will not be operating, but visitors are required to wear closed-toe shoes to enter.

As part of this event, those under 18 may receive a Doors Open Milwaukee passport that can be stamped at 24 designated locations, including the MRF. To get your passports and other information, visit the Doors Open Milwaukee website at www.doorsopenmilwaukee.org
