Bill grew up in the Village of Gilman in Taylor County Wisconsin. He attended Gilman High School and upon graduation enlisted in the army in order to pay for college. He was stationed in New Mexico at the White Sands Missile Range, which provides the Army, Navy, Air Force, and others with research, testing and development of missiles. Bill worked on generator sets, providing him with the training that led to his future success. He was also stationed in Thule, Greenland located 1,207 km north of the Arctic Circle and 1,524 km from the North Pole.
Upon completing his service, Bill attended school for diesel engines in St. Louis Missouri. He came back to Milwaukee after receiving his degree and began working as a diesel engine mechanic trainee for Cummins. He worked his way up the company during his 42 years and retired in 2001.
Bill is married with two grown children and five grandchildren. He and his wife built their New Berlin home in 1976. He and his wife have traveled practically the entire United States, including multiple trips to Hawaii and Alaska.
