    Description (Qualifications/Requirements):

    The Waukesha County Park System has volunteer opportunities for various groups and organizations that would like to volunteer in the parks. Here at the Waukesha County Park System we have eight parks, two ice arenas, and a nature center all of which welcome volunteer help. Past projects include wood chipping trails, invasive species removal, painting picnic tables or trail markers, litter pick ups, etc. We prefer weekday availability between 8am to 4:30 pm, but are willing to try and accommodate groups on weekends and evenings as well. We can accommodate groups from 2 up to 100 people and can find a project that meets the needs of your group. Requirements: All projects are outdoors and proper footwear is recommended (no sandals or flip flops). We also ask volunteers to wear work gloves if they have them, wear sunscreen and/or bug repellant, and bring a bottle of water to drink. All training and orientation is provided by park staff.

    Description (Qualifications/Requirements):

    Assist Retzer Nature Center Staff Naturalists with environmental education programs for school and scout groups. Programs are held at Retzer Nature Center and occasionally at other County Park locations. Teacher Naturalists teach specific field lessons from the Retzer Environmental Education Handbook to groups of 10-15 children and programs typically last 1 to 2 ½ hours. Children in programs range from Pre-School to High School age. Both indoor and outdoor program opportunities are available. Hours: Primarily weekdays for school groups, some evenings and weekend special events as needed. We request a minimum of 15 hours of volunteer commitment per year for this position. Requirements: A genuine love of nature is needed, as well as a desire to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with children. Prior experience working with children and specific knowledge of nature’s wonders is NOT necessary – training will be provided. Physical ability to hike on and off set trails is necessary for outdoor programming. Must be 18 years or older.
