The Waukesha County Nutrition Coalition Celebrates its 20th Anniversary and 3-Day SNAP Challenge
On October 28, County Executive Dan Vrakas honored the Waukesha County Nutrition Coalition with a Commendation during their 20th anniversary event at Easter Seals in Waukesha. Since 1994, the Waukesha County Nutrition Coalition and its member agencies have worked together to increase availability of healthy, nutritious foods in Waukesha County and have provided networking opportunities for non-profit agencies, congregations, and government agencies to improve efficiencies in dealing with hunger and food insecurity.
The Anniversary Celebration featured a premiere of a video documenting experiences of local celebrities in the Nutrition Coalition’s 3-day SNAP Challenge. Local celebrities participated in a SNAP-Challenge, which asked participants for 3 days to eat on $3.89 per day, the average SNAP/Wisconsin FoodShare (Food Stamp) program benefit level in Wisconsin. The challenge provided participants with firsthand experience of the difficulty of stretching one’s food dollar.
