Waukesha Local Government Academy 


The application window for the 2024 session of the Waukesha Local Government Academy closed on July 5.


Open to City of Waukesha residents, the Academy is an informative and interactive series to learn more about the City of Waukesha operations and government, widens community relationships, engage with community and City leadership, and identify opportunities to get more involved with City government and the wider community. The Academy will take place between September 12 and December 5, 2024, in seven sessions held on Thursday evenings (one Wednesday session on November 26), from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

  • Mayor and City Alderperson roles
  • City departments
  • City budget
  • City demographics
  • Government structure
  • How to volunteer for boards, commissions, community organizations, special programs
  • What’s involved in running for office

Tour…

  • Police department building
  • Fire station

There is no cost to participate. Potential candidates for the Academy must be a City of Waukesha resident.

Extension Waukesha County will contact applicants by August 12 to let them know whether or not they were accepted into the Academy.

A major goal for both Extension and the City of Waukesha is to help increase civic engagement opportunities for residents to learn more about the community and to participate in the decision-making process. Together, we designed the Waukesha Local Government Academy to strengthen community relationships, inform residents about the City's strengths, challenges and goals, and to increase advocacy of important topics.
