Well Child Screening:

Well child screenings are preventive health check-up services for children. Public health nurses screen children for health concerns as well as growth and development. Referrals are made to medical providers for follow-up on areas of concern.  Note: Well child screenings meet the physical screening requirements for Head Start. They do NOT meet the requirements for school sports physicals or communicable disease clearance.

  • Any child residing in Waukesha County is eligible for well child screenings:
    • An appointment is needed for Well Child Screenings.  Please call 262-896-8430 to schedule an appointment.
    • Well Child Screenings are offered for WIC participants during their scheduled WIC appointment.
    • Children on Medical Assistance or Healthy Start are eligible for Well Child screenings based on a standard schedule for age.
  • As a part of their Well Child Screening, children can also receive Fluoride Dental Treatments (en español).
    •  Public Health nurses can apply fluoride varnish treatments to children after the first tooth erupts up to the 6th birthday.
    • Fluoride is a mineral that can strengthen tooth enamel. Fluoride varnish can help prevent tooth decay, slow it down, or stop it from getting worse when combined with brushing, flossing, regular dental care, and eating a healthy diet.
    • We provide a new toothbrush to encourage good oral health care at home.
