Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Public Law 111-5, appropriates funding for the Department of Energy (DOE) to award formula-based grants to states, U.S. territories, units of local government, and Indian tribes under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program. http://www.eecbg.energy.gov/#lc1. Under the program, cities with populations of at least 35,000 or are one of the top ten highest populated cities and counties with a population of over 200,000 or counties of any size population that are one of the ten highest-populated cities or counties of the State in which they are located. Waukesha County’s allocation is $2,217,900.

The funds will be used to implement the Waukesha County Sustainability Plan initiated by Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas in 2008 and adopted by the County Board. Specifically, the County will continue to demonstrate environmental stewardship and reduce annual operating costs through energy efficiency by use geothermal heating systems, upgrading to energy efficient lighting, using waste heat recovery systems for mechanicals to heat buildings, solar hot water heating and installing signal interconnection systems to reducing vehicle delays and excess emissions at traffic lights.

Bikeway Improvement

Paving and improvements to the Lake Country Trail, which runs 14.5 miles from the City of Pewaukee west to the City of Oconomowoc – this project will provide 6.67 miles of new pavement. The trail, to be contracted by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, is anticipated to be completed by fall of 2010
Waukesha County’s allocation is $1,453,396.

The Waukesha County Department of Public Works has received American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds which will be used on six separate projects. All of these projects have been designed and permitted to comply with State and Federal Standards. The projects will be let and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Moorland Road (CTH O) from STH 59 to I-94
City of Brookfield
Reconstruction of 0.25 miles of roadway to improve the pavement, roadway drainage and safety. Sidewalks will be added along the route and sidewalk lighting will be built in addition to street lights in the median.
Waukesha County was allocated $1,929,750 for this project

Hampton Avenue (CTH K) from 132nd Street to 124th Street
in the Village of Butler – 0.53 miles
The project will recondition the existing concrete pavement which will be overlaid to provide a smooth driving surface and limit road noise
Waukesha County was allocated $1,087,050 for this project

Improvements at the Barker Road (CTH Y) and North Avenue (CTH M) intersection
City of Brookfield
The existing intersection is a 4-way stop which causes long delays in the morning and afternoon rush hours. A roundabout will be built to replace this intersection. Street lights will be added to improve safety and the new roundabout will be built to accommodate bicycles.

Expo Remodel for Home-Delivered Meal Program
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program accepted funds through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to remodel the Waukesha County Exposition Center to allow to condolidate three Home Delivered meal Distribution centers in the City of Waueksha through the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC).
Waukesha County was allocated up to $277,564 for this program.
