Background
Information (Back
to Table of Contents)
This is the 2006 edition of the Waukesha County Union List of Periodicals.
Whenever possible, library names have been spelled out in full and abbreviations
have been kept to a minimum.
This publication is intended to be an aid in locating periodical titles held in
Waukesha County libraries. A list of the participating libraries and their
periodical policies is provided. Libraries included in this list have agreed to
share these resources with each other. Participants are urged to submit their
corrections, additions and deletions on a regular basis to the Waukesha County
Federated Library System office, which will be responsible for keeping the list
updated.
Contents are current through June 2006 and, unless microform (microfiche or
microfilm) is indicated, material is in the original form. Before each title was
entered, it went through standard verification procedures. To check a library’s
most current available holdings, contact the library or check the library’s
online catalog.
General Information about Holdings
(Back to
Table of Contents)
The Waukesha County Union List of Periodicals, 2006, includes magazines and
newspapers held by participating libraries. These are listed in alphabetical
order in one combined list. Periodicals available from online sources, websites,
or CD-ROM are not included. This list only includes those periodicals that a
library actually owns.
How to Obtain
Material (Back
to Table of Contents)
1. Contact the supplying library to verify availability and determine form
(photocopy, printout, original).
2. Determine how material is to reach patron:
a. Send to requesting library and patron will pick up at
requesting library
b. Send directly to patron
c. Patron will pick up at supplying library
It is expected that, in most cases, copies of articles will be sent to the
requesting library agency. In the absence of copying equipment, the periodical
will be sent, if possible. The supplying agency will have the option of setting
limits on the number of pages per transaction. An authorizing call to the
supplying library should be made before sending a patron for walk-in service.
Agencies other than those listed as participating in this cooperative service
are requested to contact the nearest participating agency for information and
assistance in using this service.
Important Notes about
the Periodical Union List (Back
to Table of Contents)
1. Periodicals with corporate authors are listed under the title as it appears
on the title page of the magazine in accordance with AACR2 rules, not under the
corporate author.
Example: Economic Review (Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta)
2. Periodicals, which use numerals as the first word on their title page, will
appear at the beginning of the union list, preceding the “A’s”, in numerical
order. Numbers, which are spelled out, are alphabetized in the same manner as
any other word.
| Example: | 3-2-1 Contact |
| 80 Micro | |
| A+ | |
| Oncology Nursing Forum | |
| One in Christ | |
| One Thousand One Home Ideas |
3. In the print version of this periodical
union list, some lists of holdings may appear on more than one page. Since
only the holdings, not the periodical title, appear on the second page and since
there are more holdings on the second page, the last entry on a page should
always be checked for further holdings.
