Each year, Waukesha County Parks undertakes a variety of improvement and development projects across the park system. These annual initiatives are designed to enhance the quality, accessibility, and overall experience of our public spaces.

Bridle trails open May 1 - November 1 (as conditions allow). Trails may close due to surface conditions. 
Note: Bridle Trails are "shared use paths." Your consideration of fellow users is appreciated.

Trail Maintenance- May 22, 2026:

  • Tree removal work will be occurring on property adjacent to the Bugline Trail between Main Street and Silver Spring Drive in Sussex between 9:30am and 4:00pm.
  • The trail will remain open; however, users should proceed with caution in the area and be alert for active work operations and equipment. 
  • Please do not approach or enter active work areas while crews are operating equipment.

*Water Service Closure- May 11, 2026:

  • Due to an issue with the well pump system, water service has been temporarily shut down at Nashotah Park while repairs are investigated and completed.
  • As a result restrooms are currently closed and water is unavailable throughout the park

 

 

 

Beach House Showers:

  • All showers are unavailable until Saturday morning, May 23, 2026. 
  • Bathrooms, changing areas, and foot washing stations outside the building will be available. 

Moor Downs Golf Course Access:

  • Prospect Avenue Access to the golf course will be closed beginning March 9, 2026.
  • Temporary access will be available off Lemira Avenue.
  • Main parking lot next to clubhouse will be closed the week of May 18, 2026 while parking lot is being repaved. Park in Health & Human Services lot next to practice green.
  • Work is scheduled to be completed by May 20, 2026.

Moor Downs GC Seasonal Update:

  • Moor Downs 2026 Jr Golf memberships are available and make a great gift. Details here.
  • Moor Downs Golf Course is open for the season as of March 30.

Naga-Waukee War Memorial GC Seasonal Update:

  • Pit toilets near Tee #6 and Tee #14 will be demolished the week of May 25, 2026. Please do not enter active work areas while equipment is in operation. 
  • Course is open for the season as of March 24, 2026.

Chainsaw Training- May 15, 2026:

  • Chainsaw training taking place in that park from 7:00am to 3:30pm. 
  • Location: Wooded areas around the Beach House. 
  • Please do not approach the areas where work is being done. 

Picnic Area 3: 

  • Restrooms are open.
  • Parking lot, and Picnic Area are open.
  • The Multi Purpose Field will remain closed until further notice.

Mountain Bike Trails:

  • Status: Trails are currently Open. 

Swim Pond Closure:

  • Mukwonago swim pond will be closed Wednesday, May 20, 2026 for treatment. 
  • The pond will reopen Thursday, May 21, 2026. 

State Scientific Woods:

  • The culvert was washed out on the Blue Trail in the State Scientific Woods due to heavy rains.
  • The Yellow and Orange trail on the east loop is closed due to trail and culvert wash out.
  • These areas will be closed until further notice.
  • Please refer to this map of the closure area.

Water Service Closure – Nashotah Park (Updated May 19, 2026)

  • The water pressure tank servicing Nashotah Park experienced a total system failure and is currently being replaced. Park staff are working to coordinate repairs as quickly as possible, with replacement work anticipated to occur within the next week.

  •  

    As a result, water service remains unavailable throughout the park and restrooms are currently closed until repairs are completed.

  •  

    We appreciate your patience and understanding while this work is underway.

Trail Section between S. Moreland & S. Calhoun:

  • Culvert repair has been completed. 
  • Asphalt will be done spring of 2026.
  • Current conditions: compacted millings (safe for trail use).

Trail Section Closure (between E. Lincoln and S. Springdale):

  • Road construction started in May of 2025 and is expected to continue through late 2026 for Les Paul Parkway/59. Please visit the Wisconsin DOT website for more details. This repaving project involving HWY 59 will close a section of the New Berlin Trail, approximately 960 feet west of WIS-59 through Springdale Road.

Construction & Trail Closures:

  • Construction for Retzer Gardens Phase 1 began in October 2025.
  • The project site is located directly northwest of the Retzer Nature Center building.
  • This area, along with nearby section of the Blue Trail and Connector Trail, will be closed until further notice. 
  • Please refer to this trail closure map.

Cross Country Ski Trails
Trails marked as Cross Country (X-C) Ski Trails are designated for X-C Skiing only through March 30. They are not open to hikers, walkers, or other activities, regardless of snow conditions.

Snowshoe Rentals at Retzer Nature Center

Not Available: Snowshoe rentals are available as conditions allow. Snowshoe rentals are not available.

Note: Snowshoes and other traction devices are not permitted on boardwalks or on paved/concrete surfaces.
